Abstract: Although the basic teachings of Confucius are on kindness towards others, respecting the elders and ancestors, he also advocated for moral teachings that emphasized self-cultivation in his curriculum. This poster suggests the six different skills that a gentleman (junzi) must master in order to further develop his character and they are rituals, music, mathematics, calligraphy, charioteering, and archery. The likeness of a person in the poster is barefooted and as though he is walking aimlessly, the Chinese characters are laid in an organic way to suggest the path with the six skills waiting for him to be inculcated. By using a perspective from the bottom looking upwards, the angle itself suggests the humility one has to have in order to learn from the sage who is highly regarded in the society. |
