A jointly-organized event, this poster created mainly in Chinese with supporting English texts where needed is meant to advertise an event in celebrating one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Chinese and other East Asians. The winter solstice is also a time for family members to get together. Although nowhere in the poster suggests the making and eating of Tangyuan (湯圓) or balls of glutinous rice, which symbolize reunion, the poster tries to symbolically visualize what is mentioned in the main headline which is about pondering the arrival of spring which explains the white space in the upper half of the composition in contrast with leaves that changed from yellow to bright green towards the foreground. The young model was dressed in Hanfu, a traditional Ming-styled Chinese clothing. The Ming dynasty existed from 1368 - 1644. |
